Ultimate Twin Cities Day Out with Kids
School’s out and some parents are already feeling the pressure. Hopefully, living in one of our homes in Woodbury MN, your kids have found neighborhood friends to play with and enjoy their summer break. Still, it is nice to spend some family time together during the summer vacation that doesn’t require more than heading into the Twin Cities for the day. There are plenty of things to do for a day out and here are a few favorites.
A popular outing for all ages, including parents, is a visit to the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. This is not your average zoo. While you will certainly see a wide variety of beautiful animals and reptiles, that’s just the start of what is on offer. Here, you’ll find art galleries and gardens, but you’ll also find an amusement park. The Pavilion often hosts live music performances and there’s also an IMAX theater where you can enjoy a movie. This year, they’re hosting a special program of Summer Music & Films. Among the featured movies are Frozen and Grease. Best of all the zoo is open year round and has extended summer hours.
If you haven’t heard of geocaching, you should definitely look into it, as it’s essentially a treasure hunt that anyone can enjoy. Young kids will feel like explorers looking for lost pirate treasure, and even adults really get into this activity that allows you to visit new places and hopefully find some interesting areas and some hidden treasure. Though the value of the items you find aren’t usually worth much, the point is to get out and use your phone or a GPS device to explore a variety of areas while looking for carefully hidden containers. Don’t worry, there are millions across the world and there are plenty in the Twin Cities, so you’re sure to find some as you go along. Consider hiding some items yourself!
Whether you enjoy a day at the baseball park or not, we think you’ll want to visit Saint Paul’s CHS Field. Like the zoo, it offers so much more than just baseball, though game days/nights can be a lot of fun cheering on the minor league St. Paul Saints. After all, each game night includes a theme, some of which have included Star Wars and princesses, and the big favorite, the Barking Dog Parade in which all dogs get in free with their owners. Still, that’s just part of the entertainment available. The park also hosts a range of summer concerts, as well as movie screenings, yoga classes, and charity softball games. Depending on what you’re there for, you may even be able to enjoy the fire pits at the park, where visitors can roast hot dogs and marshmallows! Of course, there are plenty of other places within the park to grab food and drinks that don’t require your cooking skills.
These are just a few of the many activities you can enjoy during a day in the Twin Cities. Plus, there are Mississippi River cruises and plenty of local playgrounds and parks to explore. Use this time together with your kids to bond and get them excited about the world around them, while still just having fun. You’ll have plenty to talk about over the dinner tables at your homes in Woodbury MN at the end of such a fun day out!
