MN State Fair with Kids
The Minnesota State Fair may be one of the most famous of them all, often appearing on TV shows and in books that are seen across the country and around the world. Anyone who has worked with a Minneapolis MN new home builder like Key Land Homes is already lucky to have a dream home. You’re doubly lucky to also have easy access to the famous Minnesota State Fair, which runs this year from August 25 through Labor Day (September 5, 2022). It’s a great event for all ages but here are some extra tips to keep the kids happy.
As always, the fair will feature plenty of great food, from favorite classics to new dishes ranging from breakfast gnocchi to birthday cake paleta and everything in between with more than 60 new vendors and specialty dishes. There’s easily something for everyone, including plenty of vegan choices.
There are also numerous new attractions in addition to classic competitions, livestock shows, crafts, history tours, rides, and more. Kids and adults alike will easily find attractions that are fun and sometimes even informative. You’ll learn something new without even realizing as you’re having too good a time!
The Grandstand Stage Lineup is pretty impressive with Diana Ross, Alice in Chains, Bush, Counting Crows, Pitbull, The Beach Boys, and Jim Gaffigan, but little kids may enjoy the Disney Princesses: The Concert, with so many of the favorite Disney princess songs performed live by Broadway stars!
There are also rides and games especially for kids at Kidway and stuff for slightly older kids and adults at Mighty Midway. Best of all they’re discounted for everyone on certain days. Speaking of discounts, all children four and under get in free every day, and admission for kids ages 5-12 is discounted on certain days when you purchase tickets at the gate. These days are Opening Day, Military Appreciation Day (discount for active military, their spouses and kids), Kids Day, and Labor Day. Don’t forget to pick up the Blue Ribbon Bargain Book, which is a bargain itself at just $5. Along with discounts for adults, there are plenty of popular deals for young children including discounts on ride & game ticket sheets, merchandise and kid-friendly food & beverages.
The fair does get crowded and sometimes families get separated. Fortunately, you can pick up a free ID wristband when you arrive at the fairgrounds. Get them at any information booth or at Care & Assistance. It’s also a good idea to take a photo of your kids when you arrive at the fair, so you have a clear picture to show, including what they’re wearing. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Ultimately, you’re at the fair with your kids to have a good time and the fair offers plenty of events and activities to appeal to the younger crowd. The list is extensive, but these are just a few of the popular options. All-Star Stunt Dogs Splash features big-air stunts, incredible dog tricks, high-jumping water challenges, and plenty of comedy antics to have everyone laughing and cheering.
For something a bit calmer, head to the Alphabet Forest and enjoy the oasis of crafts, books, games, photo fun, and even meet-the-author opportunities that will help foster a love of reading in your kids.
There’s also a parade that goes through the fair every day at 2 pm, and there are plenty of opportunities to see animals up close, not to mention magicians, jugglers, games, storytelling, and much much more. The fair’s website contains just about all of the information you could possibly need.
