Minneapolis Indoor Activities for Kids
It’s easy to want to stay in your MN new homes during the winter, where you can be warm, cozy, and comfortable. Yet–especially when you have kids–you’re going to need to venture out for some entertainment and activities. Fortunately, Minneapolis knows winter and makes sure to offer a range of activities, from educational to active.
There’s no shortage of fascinating museums in Minneapolis and there’s something for all ages to enjoy. As well as the interesting exhibits, many museums include special days and activities specifically for kids. The Minneapolis Institute of Art hosts Family Day on the second Sunday of every month, while the Walker Art Center offers a Free First Saturday, with different themes each month. For those interested in history, don’t miss the Mill City Museum, which was once the world’s largest flour mill. Today, it offers a fascinating opportunity to see the ruins come to life, plus there are hands-on activities, such as climbing through the flour tower and interacting with the water lab. If you have budding scientists, Minnesota Children’s Museum is free every first Sunday of the month. This is a great museum throughout the year, and worth a family membership, especially as it gets you unlimited play and various extra perks.
For fun and thrills, try the Nickelodeon Universe, an indoor theme park at the Mall of America! As well as rides for all ages, you’ll see favorite characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Spongebob wandering through the indoor park.
To burn off some energy, give Vertical Endeavors a try. This is a chance for the whole family, including young kids, to try indoor rock climbing. There are lessons available for various age groups, plus, there’s the Boulder Sitter Club for kids 8 and older. They can be dropped off in the evening for a fun time climbing, making new friends, playing games, and eating pizza. Another active option are the Minneapolis area YMCAs, where you’ll find sports classes for members and non-members all year long.
Finally, don’t forget the Minnesota Zoo. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean there aren’t a variety of indoor activities to enjoy, including the Bee Hive, an indoor playground. You can also enjoy daily shows with different animals taking the stage each day. There’s the Free to Explore pass for qualifying families, and children 2 and under get in free.
These are just a few of the numerous indoor activities and entertainment for your little ones this winter. Don’t let the cold weather get you down. From theme parks to theaters, there’s always something going on to keep all ages entertained. So have a fun day in Minneapolis before returning to your cozy homes.
