Fortunately for those looking at new homes in Lakeville, the city was recently ranked the seventh safest large city in Minnesota.
Of course, residents of Lakeville will tell you how great it is, as well as how safe and secure they feel. This dynamic suburb of Minneapolis-St. Paul offers the convenience of the big cities and a lively atmosphere, yet maintains the small-town charm of its origins. This makes it an ideal place for families and empty nesters, as you have the proximity to the things that big-city life offers, but with the friendliness and safety of a smaller, more intimate community.
Lakeville’s ranking as the seventh safest large city in Minnesota was determined by Value Penguin, a personal finance website, that used data pulled from 2014 FBI statistics (the most recent data available) to make their evaluation. To determine each city’s crime score, they standardized the data to reflect both violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 to account for population. Then they weighed the violent crime at 80% and property crime at 20% to aggregate a crime score. The crime score was adjusted for population size, with more slack being given to larger cities.
There were 125 communities with populations of at least 5,000 that were studied by the website, and overall, Lakeview ranked 20th. Among the communities with populations larger than 20,000, Lakeview ranked seventh.
