How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your Kids

Kids love Valentine’s Day as much as adults do — perhaps even more — and there are plenty of ways to celebrate this day of love for kids of all ages. Whether you’re decorating your homes in Apple Valley MN with special decorations or hosting your own tea party for real or imaginary friends, here are some tips to make this day memorable and fun for the little loves of your life.

Create your own decorations. Kids who like to be crafty will love the chance to make their own special Valentine’s day decorations. From simple red hearts for the windows to fun heart-shaped paper chains to drape across entrances, you can get as fanciful as you like. Break out those paper lace doilies, glue sticks, glitter and stickers and create your own special decorations and even your own Valentine’s for each member of the family.

Make Valentine-themed meals. Make each meal on Valentine’s Day that little bit extra special. Even if you’re not the next hot chef, pick up some heart-shaped cookie cutters and use them to create heart-shaped French toast sprinkled with red fruits for breakfast. If you’re in a rush, you can make simple heart-shaped toast spread with strawberry jam. For an after-school treat, whip up a mixed red berry smoothie. Finally, for dinner, create a heart-shaped meatloaf topped with mashed potatoes and serve a glass of non-alcoholic sparkling cider in a fancy glass for a festive celebration.

Have a Valentine’s photo shoot. This is great for the little ones who like to dress up and have their pictures taken. Dress them in a variety of shades of red and pink and white and let them have some fun picking out special accessories and props. The pictures don’t have to be perfect; the most important thing is to have pictures that are fun and capture your child’s spirit.

Share the love. If you have neighbors in nearby homes in Apple Valley MN who are alone this year, consider dropping by with a special Valentine and maybe some cookies, chocolates, or flowers. It’s a heartwarming gesture in the true spirit of the day.

These are just a few ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your children. Try to find something special for each child, no matter the age. Even the teenagers will probably secretly be touched by something as simple as a special note in their backpack.
