Deep Cleaning Tips for Neat Freaks (and Everyone Else)

Happy family lying on floor after buying new house

You’ve just moved into one of the new homes for sale in Apple Valley MN and everything is clean and pristine. You’re determined to keep it that way and not let the dust build up, kitchen get grimy, or let disorder take over. First things first, as you unpack, make sure every item has its own dedicated space. After all, it’s hard to keep things clean when they start piling up and have nowhere to go. Once everything is where it belongs, here are some tips for keeping things clean throughout the house.

If your cleaning supplies are hard to reach or in bad shape, you’re going to be less likely to use them. Try to keep a basket of cleaning supplies in each bathroom and in the kitchen so that everything you need is right at hand. For larger items like mops, brooms, and dust pans, keep them hanging up in a storage closet or in the garage. By hanging them, they not only stay out of the way, they also run less risk of mildewing or getting bent out of shape.

If your stainless-steel appliances start to get a bit gunky, make a paste out of some cream of tartar and a few drops of water. Then apply it using a soft sponge to gently remove any build-up and grime.

You should vacuum your mattress regularly, because it helps pick up all of the dust and dirt – and let’s face it, dead skin — that can build up over time. To really freshen up your mattress, sift some baking soda over your mattress and let it sit for half an hour and then vacuum. You can add a few drops of lavender essential oil to make it smell even better.

To keep your shower walls clean and avoid mildew and soap residue gaining ground, keep a Scotch Brite dishwand in your shower. Fill it with a mixture of half vinegar, half dish soap, and give the walls a wipe down while you’re in the shower.

A light application of car wax on your vents is an easy way to keep them dust free for months at a time. To keep your baseboards clean and dust free, try wiping them down with fabric softener sheets.

These are just a few of the ways to keep your home clean. The Key Land homes for sale in Apple Valley MN are beautiful, and with a regular cleaning schedule, they can easily stay that way for years to come.
