Active Minnesota Adventures
Minnesota winters may be tough, but that just makes people more determined to get out and enjoy the outdoors whenever possible – and that sometimes includes the winter. There are a lot of active adventures you can enjoy if you’ve just moved into one of our homes in Woodbury MN, and if you’re considering purchasing a home, look at all you have waiting to keep you entertained!
- Cycling: Minnesota repeatedly ranks in the top five states for biking. If you’re looking for a leisurely ride, take the paths around the Chain of Lakes ideal for just about all ages. If you’re more competitive, there are organized options, such as the Loppet Foundation’s TRAIL KIDS program providing year-round opportunities for kids to work with coaches. Included are a mountain bike program, a Girls Rock program, and an adventure race series.
- Hiking: If you prefer to go on your own two feet, there are plenty of hiking trails, many based around the start of the Mississippi river, which starts as a small, knee-deep river in Itasca State Park where you can walk across the 18-foot-wide river. From there, the hike takes you to the mile-long Schoolcraft Trail that ends at Hill Point and overlooks an Ojibwe cemetery. Pay your respects, and then head to one of the most popular hikes in the park, the Dr. Roberts Nature Trail, which passes across a bog and the Old Timer’s impressive cabin.
- Swimming: With a name like the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it comes as no surprise that water sports of all sorts are popular here. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy Bde Maka Ska, right in the heart of Minneapolis. They offer canoe and kayak rides, stand-up paddleboarding, and rentals are available through Wheel Fun Rentals right on the lake. For something that offers thrills as well as lazy days by the water, head to Quarry Park. There are actually multiple quarries, with Quarry Two being the largest at 116 feet deep with high rock formations. Cliff jumping and cannonballs are popular with the adrenaline junkies. For a more relaxed experience, head to Quarry Eleven, only 40-feet deep, for easy swimming and sandy beaches that are perfect for hanging with friends and family and even making some sandcastles.
- Skiing: While the skiing here may not be true Alpine, Afton Alps still serves up some fun runs in this 300-acre parcel of the St. Croix River Valley that was carved into a ski area by a group of farmers in 1963. There are now 48 runs at this unusual spot now owned by Vail Resorts and there’s something for skiers, boarders, and snowplowers.
These are just a handful of the activities you can get up to throughout the year when you purchase one of the homes in Woodbury MN. There’s also horseback riding, camping, and more to keep you entertained. If you want to learn more about calling this adventurous place home, contact us today.
